Letters and accounts, 1836-1837.

Letters include four letters to Thatcher Magoun in Boston (Mass.) from Daniel L. Winsor, captain of the Timoleon, concerning Winsor's arrival in Charleston (S.C.) on December 3, 1836; the sale of cargo which had been picked up in New York; difficulties encountered in securing enough cotton or rice for a full cargo due to a canal being out of order; rice and cotton prices; and Winsor's departure for New Orleans with prospects of loading a better cargo. Included with one letter is an account of Winsor's expenses incurred at Charleston. A Letter (1836 Dec. 9) to Thatcher Magoun, Jr. from Charleston merchants Patterson & Magwood informs him that the Timoleon set sail on December 18 and confirms Winsor's opinion that he will do better in New Orleans. Also included is Winsor's summary account with Magoun & Son recording expenses incurred at different ports by the Timoleon from November 1836 through August 1837. Ports include New York (N.Y.), Charleston (S.C.), New Orleans (La.), Havana (Cuba), and Liverpool (England).
